Jena 6

The Jena 6 story, I had heard of a week before it had been brought to news in Dallas. A friend and I,at work, were talkin about some stories I could cover for my feature writing class. He than began to tell me about the Jena 6 incident. I thought it was horrible, and he gave me some websites to look at and read the story. Later on that week or the next I began to see the coverage on the news because of the March in Louisiana.
I think it is strange that this incident happened about a year ago, and was kept pretty quiet. No one really knew about it till the prodominately black community made a stand. I think the incident is horrible, and scary. Scary that racism, to that degree, is still strongly present. I know racism exist, but that incident seemed to be stepping back into the past. I hope our justice system rules fairly in this case. It needs to be made an example of justice. The punishment those boys recieved was crazy. I hope everything get straightened out, because this is opening up a can of worms if the boys are wrongfully punished.

News Habits

When it comes to news i try to stay up with the daily news. I use to not watch a lot of news because I was either too busy or watching another show. Every since news reporting 2310 and 2320 I had to stay up with my current events. Now I find myself just watching the news for enjoyment. I think its maturity. I watch the news I would say almost everyday if not twice a day. I mostly get my news information on TV or online. Reading the newspaper happens every once in awhile. When it comes to hourly watching the news, I would say I spend probably an hour if I'm lucky. Time does not allow this to happen. Sex, race or genders in the media? I notice these issues more sometime on Hollywood/celebrities news coverage. Race I do see in the everyday broadcast when it becomes a pattern. I would definitely say these issues are present in the news coverage. When it comes to celebrities this is a big coverage.
