Pirates of the Caribbean

I think this information is insane. I have never thought about casting and how it would be stereotyped. Its like "DUH", of course, probably more than anything. TV is known for being stereotypical in shows, so why wouldn't in there casting calls, display very vividly how they want there characters portrayed.

The first television pilot it was cool to see how they casted for it. For the character of Heather, I think its crazy how they say for the lead character they want someone attractive. I wonder if when people look at casting calls if they judge themselves by what is really attractive to people. For the second character Jennifer, it's funny how they label someone as "hot and hipper-than-thou." Last the main characters friend has to be a plain side kick who is chubby. I just think the characters are funny how they are labeled.

For the rest of the casting calls its pretty repetitive. But, definitely worth looking at for a laugh. Thats Hollywood.

Codes of Television

The codes of television by John Fiske was a great article/ informational piece. I liked the part about camera work. I liked reading about the angle or focus the camera uses to capture certain images. Its weird how by the way a camera can focus or swing a certain can portray a villain to look or give off a vibe. I didn't know that close-ups are a way to represent a villain.

Its a written code of television for certain casting, music, editing, or lighting. It's cool that heroes are given 72 more secs than villains, I've never thought about this. For lighting it makes sense that a villain would be cast in a more yellowish light. For music I knew that the minor and major keys changes that one is obvious, but the others I had never known before. Stereotypes of codes are intertwined in all careers. It is widely scene in this article how it implies from the top to the bottom of all aspects of the movie industry.

Sexual Metamorphasis

Britney Spears.
She is a great example of this. She started out on the Disney channel (like many other big pop stars) being idealized and watched by millions of kids. Then she came out on her own with the 'hit me one more time video', this video and strong was #1. She took a school girl outfit and made it slutty looking, but yet still wanted to play this little school girl act. The attention she gained from this video led to even more risky videos. In the end after she has turned into a laughing star. Her sexy attire is what people are laughing at now. At the MTV music awards, she could have regained fans by dressing more appropriate. The clothes she wore (that use to be sexy) looked horrible and she couldn't even perform her newly #1 song. Covering clothes would have been much better.
After watching the MTV awards, I recently watched the CMA awards. It is weird but country singers have a totally different attire than pop stars. Because of their dress you respect them more. There are the occasional bad ones, but you don't hear as much about country stars. THe girls wore pant suits or long ball gown dresses in their performanaces. It was more of an elegant look. Pop stars should try this, looking a little more classy helps your image.

Gay Vague

I did not know much on this topic before class. I think its interesting marketing idea of how the pose models to work for multiple ways. The clip shown how the guy is in a sexual position. This clip works for many audiences. The gay community and women. There is a lot of sexual positions of people in barely dressed attire seen in stores. Abercrombie is a great example. The bags are risky and they now associate there line of clothes with a childrens line. I dont think i've seen the children's bags but I would be interested to see what appears on those bags. Its weird how people relate sexual positions or pretty models to clothes. Who cares, because (most people) dont look anything like these people. The clothes aren't going to make you look this way.

Boom Chick a Wa Wa Girls

I was surprised that the ad for the chick a wa wa girls was so sexually sudective. The video was bad, it had so many messages in it. It was sick. The whole video was dumb. Starting with the doing through someones nose and being really sexual. To the housewife type ironing clothes. The stuff she said was horrible about "what about the next day" or something like that. It was bad. I can't believe it was on there.
The most surprising part of the ad I feel is that it is by the same company 'Dove'. That is horrible. Dove stands for inner beauty and they push that on people to be your true self. The ads that Dove uses are showing 'real' people how they look. Then to be in association with an ad like that surprises me. I wonder why they would do that. I would think they are better than that. Especially since Dove is a well known brand.

School Shooting

The school shooting incident is crazy. Why was this kid even allowed in a school. He seemed to have so many problems before. This kid was insane and scary. I thought the part of the description of clothes was using some stereotypes. They made him look by description to be a gothic, or devilish person. He dressed this way though to be protrayed this way. This story just scares me. The threats were made and no one did anything about it, even though he pulled stunts like this all the time. The warnings should have been taking more seriously, especially the warning that was said. These were not little threats. What bothers me; is why are kids who are so bad able to attend school with everyone? The kid is similar to the kid at Virginia Tech. There were signs in that case too. This is a horrible incident.

Guest Speaker on JENA 6

I really enjoyed the guest speaker on Friday. She was easy to listen too. I liked hearing her experience at the Jena 6 march. She seemed to be a very diverse and strong woman. I thought it was an interesting point someone brought up in the class, when they asked her, "Do you have children and did you take them?" I thought this was a good point.
They march had reasoning behind it, with a common theme to people of what they experienced in the past or what the future would be like, depending on this situation. I was surprised she did not take her children. The little one I could understand, but the 12 year old was interested. Seems like it was a tough choice for her, because on one hand you want the child to experience this, but than on the other, the safety of the child. This march could have gone in so many ways. I understood why she did not take her because she was doing work, but it might have been beneficial to the child if she went. I just thought it was a cool point someone brought up. It was neat to hear different reasons why people went to Jena.
